Deschutes County Justice Court

Justice Court is a state court administered by the County, under the direction of an elected Justice of the Peace. The court's office is located in Redmond, and court sessions are held in Redmond, Sisters and La Pine. Justice Court handles traffic and ordinance violations, small claims and certain civil matters.

Charles "Chuck" Fadeley is the Justice of the Peace for Deschutes County. He was appointed in 2004 and elected to a full term in 2005.

Court Appearances

Court appearances, during your 7-day grace period, are available, in Redmond, on Mondays at 9 a.m. & 5 p.m. & Wednesdays at 9 a.m. The door opens about 20 minutes prior to your scheduled court time for check in. 

If your citation lists Sisters or La Pine court sessions, please, read the following:

Our Sisters location will be held every other month (even months), on the 3rd Wednesday night of that month. 

Court sessions at our La Pine location will be held every other month (odd months), on the 1st Wednesday of that month. 

YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO APPEAR IN PERSON FOR VIOLATION COURT APPEARANCES:

You may mail, email, or drop-off a letter to the Court, within 7 days of your scheduled appearance, either requesting your appearance be re-scheduled, or to tell the judge what you want the court to know about your citation. Defendants who appear in writing get the same consideration as a personal appearance. The judge will make a decision and mail you the disposition. Please make sure the court has a correct mailing address to send you the judge's decision. You may also pay the fine (on-line, by mail or call in) and this will close the matter.  

Justice Court will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2024, in observance of Memorial Day.

Justice Court will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in observance of Juneteenth. 

Justice Court will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in observance of Independence Day. 

Justice Court will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2024, in observance of Labor Day. 

Please be aware that if you were scheduled for court this day you should have received a new arraignment date. Please take notice that this day(s) will not be available for those wanting to see the Judge within their 7 day grace period.  

Please remember Justice Court has a drop box located in the drive through area behind Redmond City Hall if you need to drop off anything. The drop box is opened on business days at 1 pm.  Payments may also be made via the internet.

On December 6, 2023, Deschutes County Justice Court received notice of Governor Kotek’s Order on Remission of Fines. Staff at the Justice Court cannot advise you how the order may affect your fines. To determine your eligibility click on the link at the bottom of this page.

Remittance of court fines from the order will be processed as soon as possible. Do not contact staff regarding the order. To reiterate, the Justice Court staff cannot tell you how the order may apply to your situation.

The Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is exclusively responsible for restoring your driving privileges. You must contact DMV to find out if and when you will be eligible for reinstatement.


Weddings:

Due to increasing demands on his time, the Deschutes County Justice of the Peace, Judge Fadeley, no longer performs weddings. There are several Pro Tem Judges in Bend who perform ceremonies. Marriage license applications can be purchased from the Deschutes County Clerk's Office. They can be reached by phone at (541) 388-6549 or under Permits & Licenses (tab above).

The Justice Court is not a part of the Deschutes County Circuit Court, that is housed in the county's courthouse in Bend, OR, and operated by the State of Oregon Judicial Department. If you were cited into the Bend Municipal Court, you will need to contact their business office to handle your citation. The Deschutes County Justice Court cannot help with their citations.
